Dr. Deborah L. Ackles
Dr. Ackles is one of our five owner/partners at Guilford Veterinary Hospital. She completed her undergraduate training at McGill University in Montreal and the University of Illinois. Dr. Ackles received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University in 1987. She has been with Guilford Veterinary Hospital ever since and became a partner in 1990. Her interests include feline and canine medicine and surgery with a special interest in ultrasonography.
Outside of work Dr. Ackles' interests are gardening, beekeeping, genealogy research and active travel. She enjoys spending time with her four pets, two rag-a-muffin rescued Shih Tzus, Kitsi and Pabu, and two cats, Annie the Ragdoll and Teddy the cuddle-bear tabby. Most of all she enjoys the times spent with family and friends.
Dr. Anthony DellaMonica
Dr. DellaMonica is one of our five owner/partners at Guilford Veterinary Hospital. He received his undergraduate degree in Animal Science at Purdue University. He also attended the University of Bridgeport where he received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After practicing as a registered nurse in intensive care and coronary care units and a cardiac catheterization laboratory for several years he decided to pursue his lifelong goal of veterinary medicine. Dr. DellaMonica received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts University in 1993, where he graduated with honors. Following one year of mixed animal practice he joined the Guilford Veterinary Hospital in 1994. His professional interests include gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Dr. DellaMonica and his wife Debra have been involved in breeding and exhibiting Schipperke dogs for many years. They have the honor of having a dog in the top 10 Schipperke breed rating for six consecutive years and have had several Best of Breed winners at the Westminster dog show. His other interests include fly-fishing.
Dr. Genevieve Filion
Dr. Filion joined the Guilford Veterinary Hospital in May 2007. She is a graduate of
the University of Montreal where she obtained her veterinary degree in 2000. Prior to
working at GVH, Dr. Filion did an internship at Cornell University working with farm
animals and then spent six years as a practicing veterinarian in upstate, NY. Dr. Filion's
medical interests are emergency medicine and dentistry.
When she is not working you can find her in Killingworth with her boyfriend Jeff, son Alex, and her two dogs, and five cats. She enjoys cooking, hiking, and reading in her spare time. She is originally from Quebec City and is fluent in French. While she loves Quebec she does not miss the long winters.
Dr. Donald Mullen
Dr. Mullen is one of our five owner/partners at Guilford Veterinary Hospital. Though a Connecticut native, he traveled to Pennsylvania for his higher education. He received his Bachelor's degree from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA where he met his future wife Chris who is also a veterinarian.
Dr. Mullen's veterinary degree was earned at the University of Pennsylvania School for Veterinary medicine in Philadelphia. Following graduation in 1979, he was hired as an associate at GVH, and has called it his home ever since. He became a partner in 1982. While all of the GVH veterinarians are primary care providers and address the well and sick needs of all of our patients, each of us has special interests. Dr. Mullen has been a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) since 1979 but his other areas of particular interest are canine and feline surgery and well care. While he does not play favorites, he has had at least one Labrador Retriever as a part of his family for 40 years.
In his leisure time, Dr. Mullen enjoys travel and is an avid bird watcher. He can often be spotted around town with binoculars and Sibley's Guide in hand.
Dr. Kirsten Nordt
Dr. Nordt is originally from Oregon. She completed her undergraduate degree at Lawrence University in Wisconsin in 1997. She worked as a certified veterinary technician for five years before pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian. Dr. Nordt was part of the last class to complete her veterinary degree at both Oregon State University and Washington State University, graduating in 2006. She joined the Guilford family in October of 2006. Her special interests lie in dentistry for dogs and cats and feline medicine and surgery. She also enjoys seeing some reptiles and turtles.
Kirsten lives in Guilford with her husband Nick. Their family consists of six cats and a Shih Tzu. In her free time she enjoys crafting, including quilting, knitting and cross-stitching. She also is an avid reader and traveler.
Dr. Morna Pixton
Dr. Pixton is one of our five owner/partners at Guilford Veterinary Hospital. She joined GVH as an associate in 1998 after graduating with honors from Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. She became a partner in 2008. Dr. Pixton was born in Berkeley, CA, mostly raised in upstate NY, and graduated cum laude from Yale University, receiving a Bachelor of Art in English literature.
Dr. Pixton enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery, and has a special interest in animal behavior. Dr. Pixton lives in Guilford with her twin boys and their 2 cats and 3 Standard poodles. She spends her free time enjoying life with her children and pets, and loves to read, cook, garden and especially hike.
Dr. J. Tyler Roasa
Dr. Roasa joined Guilford Veterinary Hospital in June 2010. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University. His special interests include emergency medicine, dermatology, surgery, and exotic animal medicine.
Although he and his wife are both originally from Michigan, they decided to move to Connecticut to experience living outside of the Midwest and to be close to the shore and near New York and Boston. In his free time, Dr. Roasa enjoys spending time with his wife and their dog a Brittany, cat, and turtle--a Yellow Belly Slider. He also enjoys kayaking, fishing, camping, and is an avid sports fan.
Dr. Anita Soucy
Dr. Soucy is one of our five owner/partners at Guilford Veterinary Hospital. She graduated from Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. She completed an internship in small animal surgery at South Shore Veterinary Associates in South Weymouth, MA in 1993 and joined the staff of GVH in 1994. She enjoys all aspects of canine and feline medicine, and has a special interest in soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Soucy is a native of Connecticut, having been raised in the Hartford area and completed her undergraduate work at Uconn. She is currently a Guilford resident. Her daughter, Hannah, can often be found at GVH when she is not busy participating in various choirs and theatrical productions.
