Behavioral Consultations
Our companion animals experience a multitude of behavioral issues which require a variety of treatment approaches. We provide counseling to the owner to improve understanding of the problem and formulate behavior modification plans. We augment this with appropriate medications if needed. Consultations are available with Dr. Morna Pixton by appointment.
Pharmacy
We offer a full in-house pharmacy with a wide assortment of medications, supplements and veterinary diets. This allows us to immediately provide our patients with formulations designed for their specific needs. We carry a full line of flea and tick products as well as heartworm and intestinal parasite preventatives. Any medication or food that we do not stock can be ordered through our online pharmacy and shipped directly to your home.
Technician Procedures
Technician procedures, often referred to as “in backs”, are available for services that do not require a doctor’s exam. These are done as quick outpatient procedure with one of our technicians. They can include nail trims, anal gland expression, medication injections, subcutaneous fluid administration, drawing samples for blood tests as well as other services. Technicians are always available for questions and technician visits. They will gladly instruct owners how to perform tasks such as nail trims or how to administer fluids and other injections. Appointments are not required for technician visits but we do ask that you call ahead so that we know you are coming. Hours for technician visits are Monday – Friday 10am-4pm and 4:30pm-6pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm.
*Technician visits are unavailable during staff meetings; we will inform owners as to when meetings are when the visits are scheduled.
Euthanasia/Cremation
Saying goodbye to your beloved pet is never easy. We are here to help you through this difficult process. You may schedule an appointment with a doctor or call to arrange a house call. Some owners wish to stay with their pets during euthanasia, while others choose to say goodbye and then leave before the procedure. Both choices are absolutely okay and supported by GVH and our doctors. After the euthanasia, you may choose to take your pet home for burial or have a cremation performed. Cremation, which may be communal or private, is done at an off-site location called Trail’s End in Westbrook. Communal cremation is performed as a group cremation, and the ashes are later spread in the serene country setting of Trail’s End. Private cremation is an individual cremation in which your pet’s ashes are later returned to you. Paw prints and special urns are available upon request.
